ROBERT CRAY
with LITTLE FEAT

JUNE 9

Smoking Gun Don't Be Afraid of the Dark I was Warned I Guess I Showed Her

picture of Robert Cray by Nigel Brooks

Although Robert Cray's sound may be undefinable he characterizes it this way, "Every time somebody asks me about where my music comes from, I give them five or six different directions – a little rock, soul, jazz, blues, a little gospel feel. Then there are some other things that maybe fall in there every once in a while, like a little Caribbean flavor or something. You just never know. I always attribute it to the music we grew up listening to, and the radio back in the '60s. It's pretty wide open. It's hard to put a tag on it." Well, that sums it up pretty well. Over the decades he has recorded in a variety of styles and had hits such as "Right Next Door (Because of Me)," "Smoking Gun," and "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark." The five-time Grammy Award winner continues to record and release vibrant new music and wow audiences with his live shows. Join us at the Mount for Cray and his amazing band and enjoy the full range of a live Robert Cray performance!

Willin' Dixie Chicken Sailin' Shoes Oh Atlanta One Clear Moment Let It Roll

picture of Little Feat

Little Feat is very possibly the last man standing example of what used to be the norm in American music, a fusion of a broad span of styles and genres into something utterly distinctive. Feat took California rock, funk, folk, jazz, country, rockabilly, and New Orleans swamp boogie and more, stirred it into a rich gumbo, and has been leading people in joyful dance ever since.

Starting in 1969, when Lowell George was fired by Frank Zappa. George, Bill Payne, Richie Hayward and Roy Estrada began a string of hits starting with instant-classic tune "Willin'," and the follow-up "Sailin' Shoes." Paul Barrere joined after that album and, along with other changes in personnel, a string of hits followed including "Dixie Chicken," "Fat Man In the Bathtub" and "Oh Atlanta." Although George died in 1979 and they temporarily disbanded, ultimately the band lived on. Time has loved these musical heroes for decades now. With core members Bill Payne and Paul Barrere they come to the Mount with all the energy and joy you've come to expect from a Little Feat show!

Rock ‘N’ Blues Fest

August 19

Mississippi Queen Frankenstein Free Ride Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo Tell Mama

picture of Poster

The depth of Rock and Blues talent in this line up is sure to delight and amaze you! Johnny Winter, Edgar Winter, Leslie West of Mountain, Rick Derringer and Savoy Brown's Kim Simmonds have been creating fresh and exciting music since the 60's. Johnny, Edgar, and Leslie all played the original Woodstock.

Constantly shifting between primal country blues in the vein of Robert Johnson to scorching electric slide guitar, Johnny Winter has always been one of the most respected singers and influential guitar players in rock and the clear link between British blues rock and American Southern rock. Johnny's brother, Edgar, has also shown an amazing ability to cross musical genres. From early ground breaking hits such as "Frankenstein" and "Free Ride" and energetic performances (he invented the keyboard strap so he could move about the stage) he has continued to wow audiences all over the world. Leslie West, of the legendary hard rock band Mountain, has been an ongoing creative force and inspiration for a legion of guitar rockers. His bold, expressive and unique guitar style has imitators but no one plays quite like he does. From his earliest hit, "Hang on Sloopy" with the McCoys when he was only 17, to his guitar work with both Johnny and Edgar Winter in the early 70s and solo hits like "Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo" Rick Derringer has been impressing audiences and musicians alike for decades. He has ventured into Blues and Jazz over the years but he still Rocks! Savoy Brown's founding guitarist, Kim Simmonds helped launch the 60's British blues movement. With hits like "Tell Mama" and "All I Can Do Is Cry" they racked up a string of hits and enthusiastic audiences. Kim has continued the Rock and Blues tradition as a solo artist and also has recently released more "bare bones" album where he struts his singer/songwriter chops and a wider musical range.

This is a show with something for every Blues and Rock fan to love!

Hold On Loosely Rockin' Into the Night Fantasy Girl Chain Lightnin

picture of 38 Special

After more than three decades together, 38 Special continue to bring their signature blast of Southern Rock to over 100 cities a year. At each and every show, thousands of audience members are amazed by the explosive power of the band's performance. Most associate the band with their arena-rock pop smashes, "Caught Up in You," "If I'd Been the One," "Back Where You Belong," "Second Chance" and more — Timeless hits that remain radio staples, immediately recognizable from the first opening chord. The co-founders of the group, vocalist Donnie VanN Zant and guitarist/vocalist Don Barnes, say it's all about maintaining that intensity in their live shows. Barnes says, "We never wanted to be one of those bands that had maybe gotten a little soft or complacent over the years. We're a team, and it's always been kind of an unspoken rule that we don't slack up, we stack up. We go out there every night to win." Van Zant is a unique driving force for the band, with an unending spirit that propels the rest to consistently take it up a notch. It is that steely determination that lives on in the hearts of these 'Wild-Eyed Southern Boys.' This is sure to be one high energy night here at the Mount!
